What we collect

Give It Smaller does not require an account. We do not track what you upload. The only data we process automatically is the files you choose to upload for compression.

If you use our contact form, we collect the information you voluntarily provide: your email address, optional name, subject category, and message. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not shared with third parties.

How your files are handled

Files you upload are sent to our servers for compression, then deleted automatically once processing is complete. We do not keep copies of your files, inspect their contents, or share them with anyone. Your files remain yours at all times.

Cookies and local storage

We do not use tracking cookies. We store three types of data in your browser:

• Your theme preference (light or dark mode) in localStorage
• Your language preference in localStorage
• Your current upload session state (file names, progress, job IDs) in sessionStorage, which is cleared automatically when the browser tab is closed

Third-party services on this site may set their own cookies. See the section on advertising below.

Advertising

We use third-party advertising services to display advertisements. These providers may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. This is known as interest-based or personalised advertising.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info to opt out of third-party advertising cookies more broadly.

Data retention

Uploaded files are deleted automatically after compression. We do not maintain an archive of processed files, upload history, or user activity. Server logs may be retained for a short period for operational purposes and are not linked to any individual.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Since we do not collect personal data or require accounts, there is generally nothing to request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
